Mental Health Resources Following Election Day

Your Wellbeing Following Election Day

This post will be a bit different from usual. We want to connect you to any resources you may need or want to take advantage of following Election Day. I know that this election has a big impact on my life, and it certainly does for the rest of the students at the U. Regardless of how you voted, if you voted, or where you land on the political spectrum, these resources are available to you if your mental wellbeing is being impacted by this election.

On November 2, election support kits produced by Student Leadership and Involvement (SLI) will be available for 100 students in the lobby of the Union. The kits include a cold gel pack, tea, a reflection journal, a pen, support resources, and ideas for coping with the election results. On the same day, there will also be a Chai & Chat International Support Group. This chat takes place every Tuesday from 5—6 p.m. and serves as a virtual drop-in for international student support.

On Election Day (November 3), the Center for Student Wellness is hosting group wellness sessions, one for undergraduate students (11 — 11:45 a.m.) and one for graduate students (12 —12:45 p.m.). Students can register through the @TheU article posted on attheu.utah.edu. ASUU is also hosting some stress-buster events that may include a yoga session and game night from November 3—11. Check out the @uofustudentgov Instagram for more info!

On November 4, the Hinckley Institute of Politics will host a 2020 Election Debrief: What Happened and Why. That debrief will run from 1:30 — 2:45 p.m. The Bennion Center is also hosting a Post-Election Exhale from 12 — 1:30 p.m. and the University Counseling Center is hosting a drop-in group and individual counseling from 9 a.m. — 5 p.m.

On November 5, UMFA and U PEAK Health and Fitness are hosting a Visual Art + Mindfulness guided meditation from 1 — 2 p.m.

International Student & Scholar Services will host a town hall from 4 — 5 p.m. on November 10 to discuss potential political impacts to international students, the details of which will be sent to all international scholars soon.

On November 11, the Center for Student Wellness is hosting Check on U-Tah: Building community through bystander intervention from 5 — 6:15 p.m. to empower students to check on their community members and prevent harm.

On November 12 & 13, the Center for Student Wellness is hosting Wellness Beyond Whiteness panels. The November 12 panel will run from 12 — 1:30 p.m. and be led by staff and faculty, and the November 13 panel will run from 1 — 2 p.m. and be led by students.
