Dining on Campus

Meal Plan Requirements

Living in certain residence halls on campus requires a meal plan. Luckily, there's a wide variety of options on campus for students to dine in or grab a quick snack. With different plans, the University allows you to choose the perfect plan for you.

Food Options

On campus, there are two buffet style dining halls that offer a wide range of food items such as classic food like pizza, burgers, and nuggets, to Mexican food, stir fry, and a separate area that avoids the 9 most common food allergens. In the mornings, you can expect a rotation of things such as eggs, waffles, pancakes, fruit, biscuits and gravy, breakfast burritos, and French toast—among other things.

If your food cravings are not met by the dining hall, there are other options such as meal transfer locations, chain restaurants, and cafes all around campus. In the Union, you can find Einstein Bros Bagels, Panda Express, JDawgs, and Crimson View. Allowing the option to either quickly grab food to go or sit in the union cafe area and eat in between classes. You can pre order online through boost to access the pick-up services. In cafes and markets, you can find pastries, muffins, small snacks, sodas and coffees.

On campus there are many different options through dining services, but if you’re missing cooking or baking for yourself, you can always utilize the community kitchens in your residence hall or join clubs like the U of U baking club!

Best food options for a quick stop before class

Getting to know your schedule and finding places on campus to eat can take. Some of the best spots are the Union, Miller Café, the Café in the Art building, market @ Marriott Library, and the business building café. Depending on the building your classes are in, you will probably find little spots for a snack besides the dining halls. One suggestion is to walk to class and pick up food as you go or stop for food on the way back to the residence halls.

Another tip is to get a mini fridge and microwave for late nights and early mornings when the dining halls may not be open or you’re craving something else. You can get microwave meals from late night markets such as Crimson Corner, or the Honors Market.

No matter where you are on campus, there is always food nearby and plenty of options.
